CLUB RESULTS: 06/12/2014

After a dreary start to the day with rain greeting the members who came early to the Club, the sun finally showed itself and made for better conditions.

3 Universal Trench / DTL & Skeet squads participated in the set programs.

WANTED: Membership Card Photos

As advised previously the Club will be issuing new membership cards which require a passport size photo of the member applying for membership.

At the present time, the Committee are not able to complete the following cards until this photo is received.

If your name is listed below, would you kindly supply a passport size photo as soon as possible so that we can issue your 2015 MGC membership card.

MGC clean up at the Victorian State DTL Titles in Echuca

With record crowds over 370 shooters and faced with hot and windy conditions it was Melbourne Gun Club members particularly our juniors who came out on top.

Some great performances were shown with Jack Clerke winning the Overall in the Points Score with the only possible shot for the day.  Mitch Iles battled out the Double Barrel to win the Overall with a great score of 226/226 and Craig Henwood was the winner of the Overall High Gun with only 6 points down over the competition.

Melbourne Gun Club 2015 Membership Renewals

Membership renewals for the 2015 season are now being accepted.  The only change to the fees is a slight increase in the levy paid to the ACTA.

For 2015 the Committee have needed to move towards a new membership card where a passport photo is required to be printed on this card.

Please ensure this photo is included when you forward your renewal documentation. The Office Staff will also be able to process a photo for you if renewing in person.

REPORT & RESULTS: 2014 Victorian State ISSF Trap Titles

The 2014 Victorian State ISSF Trap Titles were held at the Melbourne Gun Club on Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th of October in perfect conditions. The event was held over 175 Tgts + Final.

A total of 31 shooters entered the event. Well down on previous years but while this may sound like a small crowd it is a BIG improvement on attendances during the year at regular club competitions where clubs are struggling to get more than 5 shooters turn up and competitions cancelled.

CLUB RESULTS: 11/10/2014

Busy, busy and more busy!

On Friday 10th of October was the inaugural Yarra Valley School Boys Shoot, organised by Garry Bennett from Lilydale High School with 68 students attending.

Saturday brought great weather conditions, 30 Come and Try Guests, 10 DTL & 3 Skeet Squads and the return of the Tasmanian Students from the previous day.  These students and their parents were off to Werribee the next day and then onto Benalla for more competitions on Monday.  They expressed their thanks to Garry and all at the Club who had made this an enjoyable and great learning experience for them all.

FOCUS ON A JUNIOR: Jack Clerke

Jack only started shooting about 3 years ago as a year 8 student from Lilydale High School in the after school program.

He showed great determination and eagerly took to weekend competition, initially at his home club, Melbourne Gun Club, but then thanks to his dad and mother started travelling around the state to various competitions.

He quickly progressed from C grade and in little over a year and a half had made it into AA.

CLUB RESULTS: 27/09/2014

Warm weather conditions welcomed the 8 DTL Teams to the planned program.

No Skeet Competition but those Skeeties who did attend, enjoyed some friendly practice time.

New Opening Hours - NOW OPEN FRIDAY!

As from Friday September 26th the following opening hours will apply at the Melbourne Gun Club.

Wednesday: 12.00 until 6.00 pm (practice)
Friday: 1.00 until 5.00 (practice)
Saturday: 10.00 until 11.30 (practice) followed by competition

The Melbourne Gun Club is not open 3rd Saturday of each month due to Field & Game Competition and no 5 stand practice available on Saturdays.

Lilydale High / MGC Juniors State School Championship

On Monday 8th September 6 students from Lilydale High School attended the State School Championship shoot at Bendigo Clay Target club.

Close to 80 students qualified to attend the State Championship shoot.

Eliminations had occurred around the state at the various regional shoots that had seen close to 1000 competitors state wide attend the various venues.

The regular practice every Wednesday after school at the Melbourne Gun Club in addition to the weekend competitions attended by several of the Lilydale High students paid dividends.

12 DTL, 4 Skeet & 3 Trench teams enjoyed the warm spring weather and great day of competitions including the ISSF Trench Peter & Jean Wray Cup!

CONGRATULATIONS Jack on winning silver in the Junior World Championships ISSF Trap!

CONGRATULATIONS to Jack Wallace for winning the silver medal in the Junior World Championships for ISSF Trap held in Granada, Spain.

After the 5 qualifying rounds Jack entered the final in 2nd place with a great score of 121/125 (23-24-24-25-25).

In the single barrel semi final Jack shot a great 13/15 to qualify him for the gold medal match against Ian O'Sullivan from Ireland.  Unfortunately for Jack the gold wasn't to be with Ian shoot 13/15 to Jack's 11/15 but still a fantastic effort.

CONGRATULATIONS Mitch on winning the World ZZ Championship!

CONGRATULATIONS to Melbourne Gun Club member Mitchell Iles who has just won the Overall World ZZ Championship in Bologna, Italy.

225 shooters entered the event and Mitch was tied after 40tgts with 3 other shooters. In the shoot off Mitch shot 9/10 to be crowned the 2015 World Champion!! An amazing effort at 15. Mitch of course also won the Junior World Championship!

Mitch and his grandfather Bill elected to stay on in Italy to shoot the event after the World Universal Trench Championships. Bill finished a creditable 4th in the Super Veterans category.

World Universal Trench Championships – Lonato, Italy

A total of 10 individual shooters from Australia made the long haul with some support crew (parents, grandparents, coaches, friends, wives) to Lonato in Italy to compete in the 32nd World Championships in Universal Trench Shooting.

Shooters to make the journey were: Jeff Tonna, Mitch Iles (with grandfather Bill), Craig Henwood, Taylah-Jane Turner, Kelly Coogan, Lachlan Holdsworth (with Mum Jenny & Dad Andrew), James Willett (with coach Graeme), Steve Trembath (with wife Megan) & Colin and Clint Kneebone.

CLUB RESULTS: 30/08/2014

Great conditions for the 10 DTL & 3 Skeet Squads who came to contest the program.  The Committee expresses their sincere thanks and appreciation to Sheridan Morley and Ian Fraser who generously sponsored the DTL Dash For Cash competition.

Well done Jack!

Congratulations to Jack Wallace who has brought home the bronze medal from the International Grand Prix at Gabala, Azerbaijan!  Jack shot a top qualifying score of 123/125 which was equal first with world #1 Alexey Alipov of Russia.

In the semi-final stage, Jack entered a three-way shoot-off for the bronze medal match winning by two targets.

Jack will now head off to Granada, Spain, in early September for the World Championships.

Melbourne Gun Club / Lilydale High School Juniors

Over the last 6 months students from Lilydale High School have been regularly attending Melbourne Gun Club after school on Wednesday.  This year 20 – 25 students have regularly attended these weekly sessions.

On Thursday 7th of August,  22 of these students attended the South East Region school championship at Frankston gun club.  In total 253 students shot on the day.  The Lilydale High students performed exceptionally well.
