Well Done in Tassie Will!

Will is in Year 11 at Lilydale High School and also a member of the Melbourne Gun Club.

Recently Will traveled to Tasmania for the State Championships.  He was the defending champion and was hoping to follow it up with a good result this year.

He far exceeded his hopes...

CLUB RESULTS: 13/02/2016

The Club hosted 32 Come & Try Guests to start the morning off  and then proceeded with our 'Thank You' competition for our 3 wonderful volunteers, Tony Hopkins, John Svensson and Jim Turner who have supported the Club for many years, in many different ways.  Before the commencement of the program, President Darryl Johnston thanked Tony, John and Jim for all their tireless efforts in assisting the club and presented them with a Certificate of Appreciation and a Gift from the committee and members.  Hot conditions were experienced by the 5 DTL and 3 Skeet Squads who participated but all seemed to enjoy the stroll along our new pathway connecting to all the grounds.

REPORT: 2015 Come & Try Days

MGC has welcomed over 600 Guests to the Club this year for our Come and Try Days.  All appeared to enjoy their time at trying to hit a target, with many returning for another date and others immediately seeking to join the Club before they left.

With our website booking service, it has become easier for our Guests to arrange what date they wish to attend and pay as they book.  Not like the early days when Jim Hutchinson & Tina White made many notes, contact calls and lost sleep over who would or would not show up on the day.  Groups are kept to 25 participants but this does vary (mainly over).  Dates are booked out up to 8-10 weeks in advance and it is very rare for a cancellation.

CLUB RESULTS: DTL Champion of Champions

A good crowd of 52 shooters for our DTL Champion of Champions sponsored by Barry Humpris of Mt Evelyn Garden Centre.

A big thank you to Baz for his kind sponsorship again for the overall High Gun.

This shoot is one of the main shoots of the year at our club.

A big congratulations to club member Inge Esplin for shooting herself into A grade this weekend. Look out Roger!

RESULTS: MCG Major Raffel

With bated breathes from all who were present at the Club's great 50th Anniversary Dinner and who had purchased what they thought would be the winning ticket. Club President Darryl Johnston invited Judith Kent (VCTA State Secretary) to draw the winning ticket for the 3 Gold Ingots valued at $4,800.00.

First indication was: The winning ticket had two names on it .. this was perhaps a bit disappointing to those who had purchased what they were hoping would be the winning ticket, but still, the best of "Aussie" luck to those names had been drawn as winners.

STOP PRESS: MGC Wins State DTL Teams Match in Echuca

After being crowned the winning team in the South East Zone this year Melbourne Gun Club has now gone one better and won the teams match at the State DTL Titles in Echuca.

Held over the 50 Tgt Points event team members Mitch Iles (150), Jack Clerke (149), Roger Esplin (147), Steve Trembath (147) & Craig Henwood (145) were too strong for all of the other club teams entered to take the title for the first time in many many many years for the club.

CLUB RESULTS: 07/11/2015

With many competitors at the Victorian State DTL Titles, the Club still welcomed 3 DTL Squads and 4 Skeet Squads for the planned program.

Appreciation is extended to those who assisted with the running of the day.

Sincere appreciation and our thanks to Marissa Ball who kindly offered to make our Anniversary Cake.  High calorie and very mouth watering,  this was enjoyed by all!

REPORT: 2015 Victorian State ISSF Trap Championships

The Victorian State ISSF Trap Championships were again held at Melbourne Gun Club on 2 perfect sunny days on September 26th & 27th 2015 which again saw well known shooter Nidal Asmar collect another bridesmaids prize at a State Title.

Nidal was that confident this year of breaking his drought of seeing his trophy wall without a red sash that he and his brother Wes agreed to stump up the prize money for this year’s event and offer $1000 to the overall winner. “Easy money” his words were.

CLUB RESULTS: 10/10/2015

Quiet day, competition wise, with only 3 DTL Squads attending with most members away attending the SE Zone Carnival at FACTC.

Morning was very busy with 28 Come & Try Guests plus 21 Corporate Function Guests who all enjoyed their time at the Club.

Appreciation is extended to our Members who assisted with both these groups.

Great weather conditions for all those who attended!

A warm welcome to those competitors who visited from other clubs to participate.  The Alexander Club came to take home the Alexandra / MGC Cup (which they brought down and took home again) and we had MCC guests compete against the MGC Club in Skeet (MGC retained the trophy).

'Trenchies' came out to practice and all in all, with the weather, 14 DTL Squads & 4 Skeet Squads, 26 Come & Try Guests and visitors, it was a great day to be at the club.

REPORT: 2015 Universal Trench World Championships

On the weekend of the 15th of August a large contingent of Aussies made their way to Granada, Spain to compete in the 33rd World Universal Trench Championships held at the Las Gabias Shooting Range August 21-23.

Making the long trek was our senior team of Nathan Cassells, Steve Trembath & Craig Henwood, our ladies team of Anna Shedrina & Amanda Holt and our junior team of Adam Shale (with his sister Demi), Brody Walters (and mum Mikala) and Jackson Willmann (with parents Scott & Sonia and brother Bryce).

Also travelling with the team were the following shooters competing as individuals; Ross Liersch, Marcus Cassells, Vinnie Mollica (with father Vince Snr) & Lachlan Holdsworth (with mum Jenny). This ensured a big crew and a large Australian presence felt at the championships.
